First and foremost, this blog is here for fun and for me to have a place to keep track of the reviews that I do. I want my reviews to sound like me and to sound like something that I would like to read. This means that I will try to remain honest, will often incorporate personal anecdotes and stories, and try to reach my audience. My audience are first and foremost, the teens in my community. I also aim to reach all lovers of YA literature.
I review books that I feel strongly about, that I feel would have a reader somewhere in my library. That means, on the whole, that I review just about everything at the moment. I don’t review every book that I read. Sometimes I finish a book and all I have to say about it is “It was good.” or “It was okay.”
If you are interested in sending me a book to review, I am open to receiving it. I will accept ARCs, published copies, and e-book formats compatible with the Barnes and Noble nook — my e-reader.
I try to post a review as soon as possible. This process can take anywhere from a few days to a few months. If the book is an ARC, I will do my best to post the review before or around the time of publication to allow for best publicity. I include cover art, a short summary written by me, a personal review, a link to the author website, a link to Amazon.com for purchase, and a link to my library’s catalog in my review. Reviews are cross-posted to Good Reads, Amazon.com, and LibraryThing when I have a chance.
If you are interested in getting me a copy of a book, please contact me at readwhatyouknow [at] gmail [dot] com for more information. Thanks!
Five Stars — One of my favorite books ever.
Four Stars — Great, solid book.
Three Stars — Good story, but something’s missing.
Two Stars — It’s got more issues, a shaky book.
One Star — Didn’t like it, I’d read it only if it’s the last book on Earth.
I do not receive money for this blog. I am not paid to write the blog, I am not paid to edit the blog, and I am not paid by publishers to read or review any of the books on the blog.
The links that I provide to Amazon.com do not earn me any income. I am not an Amazon affiliate.
Most ARCs I accept are read, reviewed, and passed on to the teens in my community. I make exceptions for ARCs that I obtain at conferences that are signed by the author or personalized to me. I state in my reviews, directly under the title and publication information where I received the book; either through the publisher, a library conference, the library (check-out) or at a bookstore. None of my reviews are influenced by receiving an ARC or finished copy. All of my reviews are my own honest opinion.
Any of the books that you see on the blog are not endorsed by me, nor are they guaranteed to be hits in your library. This blog is here merely for me to share my thoughts about books with the world and to hopefully provide recommendations to teens and all who read YA literature.
